The evening is quite enjoyable and the ticket price for the show is completely worth the investment. The event generally happens in October and is attended by the who and who of the city along with tourists who come to enjoy this magical evening.
2. The Chinese New Year Parade.
February marks the advent of the Chinese New Year and Valentine’s Day and the whole city drowns in Chinese celebrations. The whole month is full of festivities and there are two main parades in the city which you can attend to witness the traditional dragon dance and to gorge on some great Chinese delicacies. There are some great restaurants in the Chinatown area of the city which offer traditional Chinese cuisine for you to taste and enjoy the month-long celebrations.
3. The Chicago Comic And Entertainment Expo.
Well-known as C2E2, this event is held every year and attracts all the geeks from around the world who come to enjoy this frenzy and connect with fellow comic fans. You can meet so many celebrities here and take home memorabilia from the event. Actual fans come dressed as their favourite characters and you can even get an autograph from your idols. From panel discussions to group performances, this expo attracts a great crowd and you can have some good time mingling with fellow fans and geeks who are also interested in the same comic or movie as you.
4. Chicago Beer Classic Festival.
With more than 100 breweries participating in the event, get ready for a beer-filled extravaganza and experience some great tastings, beer-related activities and interactive sessions to learn more about the art of beer crafting. We attended this event and loved how the attendees get to experience the art first-hand and learn so much about the whole process. We tasted some fine beers from local breweries as well as national companies. You can even vote for your favourite beer and the brewery with the most votes wins the coveted award for the best brew.
5. Chicago Blues Festival
One of the biggest Blues festivals of the world, the Chicago Blues Festival is held every year to honour the city’s history as a land of musicians. The festival is usually held in June and includes acts from music legends as well as local musicians who perform during the day. The sprawling lawns give you ample spaces to get a nice spot to enjoy these performances with your friends or your date. 6. Randolph Street Market Festival
Held in October at Plumber’s hall, this street market festival is for shopping lovers as 100s of vendors come to display their wares at this event. It is an indoor-outdoor event and is held for two days where you can get to buy some great local antiques, furniture, clothing etc. The market is abuzz with shoppers the whole day and you have to get in early to find some unique commodities which are made by local craftsmen. The entry fee to the market is quite cheap and you wouldn’t regret the whole experience. In the winter months, you can even get to roam through a beer garden in the outdoor area of the event.
If you want to kick-start the summer season in style, attend the Mayfest which offers local delicacies and great music for you to enjoy while lounging around in the sun. The event also has some musicians performing sets which you can enjoy while sipping on a local brew from the outside beer garden. The event is a great place to experience the local culture of Chicago and we are planning to visit it in May to experience the city like one of its own.

9. Ginza Holiday Festival
Get a taste of Japan in Chicago by attending the Ginza holiday festival where local craftsmen from Tokyo are flown in to Chicago to display their crafts and skills. Experience live martial arts, local Japanese food, and dances from Japan and feel like you are in a completely different world altogether. You can also buy Japanese craft pieces for your home from this festival and have a great time like we had. Make sure that you dress accordingly to the theme to enjoy even more during this festival.
10. Chicago Hot Dog Fest
When you are in Chicago, it is absolutely necessary to taste hotdogs which is one of the most popular and preferred foods of the residents. This fest is organised by the Chicago History Museum and celebrates this delicacy in various forms. You can enjoy a hot dog from any of the famous stands at the venue and attend a lecture on the history of hotdogs or listen to some live music.
